Yeah, I know--we're all demoralized, unenthusiastic, ungrateful, unrealistic, and unkempt (wait that last part primarily applies just to me).
But, seriously . . . enough with the weak-kneed, wish-washiness (or wishy-washness if it's like attorneys general) from Democrats that are worried about the political implications of not extending the Bush Tax Cuts.
This is a gift--a manna of political goodness that only comes along once or twice in a quarter of a century. And yet, the Democrats are somehow poised to piss it all away.
Of course, the Democrats, who are desperately churning to turn this election into a choice rather then a referendum, have the biggest slam dunk, no-brainer choice teed up in front of them and somehow they keep managing to whiff.
Obviously, the Democrats want the election to be a choice rather then a referendum on the party in power. Makes sense.
But, the Bush Tax Cuts are a 2-fer. You can make an end-run around the incumbent party's unpopularity AND make the comparison--not between Bush and Obama, but between Bush and Clinton. Not to mention, that you get to repeatedly mention practically the most toxic word in the English language--'BUSH'.
The choice facing us is simple. We can have the Bush tax rates and the Bush economy or the Clinton tax rates and the Clinton economy.
To summarize:
Extending Bush Tax Cuts = Bush economy
Not extending Bush Tax Cuts = Clinton economy
Wait--let's be even more succinct:
Bush taxes=Bush economy
Clinton taxes=Clinton economy
That's eight words--pretty bumper stickery (or possibly bumpers sticker).
